A Gift from Jesus: The Christmas Shoes Project
For the past eight years, the Christmas Shoes Project has been quietly changing Christmas for thousands of children in Albania, one pair of shoes at a time. What began as a small step of obedience through Radio 7 in Tirana has grown into a powerful testimony of faith, unity, and compassion. From the very beginning, God has used this project to bring people together with one shared calling: to bring joy where there is pain, dignity where there is lack, and the love of Christ where hope feels distant.
In many parts of Albania, poverty is not seasonal, it is a daily reality. For children, something as simple as a warm, sturdy pair of shoes can determine whether they attend school, walk safely through winter roads, or feel confident among their peers. Too often, worn-out shoes tell a painful story of hardship. The Christmas Shoes Project steps into that story, meeting a practical need while offering something far deeper, hope, kindness, and the reminder that these children are seen and loved.
This Christmas, more than 500 children from both rural and urban areas received new shoes. Volunteers, church members, and community leaders came together to distribute them in orphanages, safe houses, schools, churches, and community centers. Each pair was carefully prepared and given with prayer, encouragement, and the love of Jesus.
“These shoes brought so much joy to the children,” shared Jona, a volunteer from Tirana. “The smiles on their faces were priceless. They were jumping with joy. It’s more than just a gift, it’s a reminder that they are loved.”
For children living in safe houses many of whom have experienced deep trauma the impact was especially profound. Eni, a volunteer working with abused children, shared: “These children have suffered so much. They lost their homes, their schools, their friends everything in one day. Many don’t trust anyone anymore. I haven’t seen them this happy in a long time. The shoes were packed so beautifully, and they could feel the love. They were reminded that they are not alone. These shoes warmed hundreds of hearts, not just little feet.”
The success of the Christmas Shoes Project is only possible because of collaboration. Faithful listeners from Albania, Greece, and the United States gave generously once again. Local businesses, international supporters, and devoted volunteers ensured that every pair of shoes reached a child in need.
“This project is a beautiful example of God’s love in action,” said Pastor Genci from Tirana. “Distributing shoes through our new church plant in northern Albania strengthened our relationship with the community. It is truly the Body of Christ at work.”
As the project continues to grow, the vision remains unchanged: meeting physical needs while sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. This is about more than shoes, it is about walking alongside communities in love and faith. As one child simply said, “These shoes make me feel special. It’s like a gift from Jesus Himself.”
Thank you to everyone who gave so generously this year. Because of you, hundreds of children stepped into Christmas with warmer feet, and fuller hearts.
